Matchbericht
Week night game in Kloten
The Horgen Dolphins filled the visiting team locker room at the Kolping Arena early for the game on Tuesday night. As more players entered, the room began to charge in anticipation of a win against EHC Swissair.
The game began with neutral zone battles, each team cautious not to over-commit on an attack. Midway through the first period, circling in the Swissair zone, Christoph ‘Dumi’ Dummermuth found Sven Huber’s stick in the slot. Dumi laid the puck on Huber’s stick who shot it with a swift reflex. Horgen 1- Swissair 0.
Swissair charged back and threatened to tie, but the Dolphins held off the each strike. Taking advantage of Swissair’s charge, the Dolphins created a potential break-away with Marc Weber as headman. He received the bouncing puck from the defensive clear while a Swissair player also struggled for control. The clash ended with Weber’s skates being knocked from under him and the referee’s hand in the air to signal a penalty shot. With poker player confidence Weber skated towards the Swissair goal and made his move. The opposing goalie read and stopped the shot and stopped his team from entering the locker room with a two-zero deficit after the first period. Horgen 1, Swissair 0.
Refreshed after the break, Swissair and Horgen returned only to have the second period tilt in favor of Swissair. They tied the game halfway through and maintained it until the end of the period. (1-1).
With the game level, the third period began with Swissair getting on the scoreboard again. They scored a quick goal less than three minutes into the period. (2-1). The Dolphins were determined not to let this one slip away easily. But determination alone couldn’t keep the puck from the back of the goal. Swissair scored again 7 minutes later on a triangular passing play (3-1). While fending off another push, Horgen defense sent a high clear to center ice. This time Dumi was the target. He and a Swissair player attempted to control the bouncing puck simultaneously. The play, again, ended with a Dolphin on the ice and the referee’s hand up for another penalty shot. This time the most exciting play in ice hockey paid off for the visitors. Dumi snapped the puck ‘tweeners’ pulling Horgen within one (2-3).
Determination and aggressive fore checking was the key to Horgen’s comeback. Deep in the Swissair zone, Bruno Rinaldi forechecked the puck off a Swissair player, saw Dumi positioned in the high slot and quickly passed it. Dumi’s shot found the back of the net - his second goal of the night evening. (3-3). The rest of the third period was a hard fought back and forth struggle. Swissair maintained their high speed offense but the Dolphins continued to turn them away while trying to get an edge offensively. There were opportunities for both teams at each end of the rink. But when the final whistle blew neither had broken the tie (3-3).
The Dolphins’ next three games are at the Bossard Arena in Zug. November 25th against HC Siebnen, v. EHC Treff Selection on December 2. On December 9, Horgen will host EHC Swissair.
