The Horgen Dolphins fell short in their attempt to record two wins in a row. In another ZEP Group B match-up, the Dolphins skated against HC Condors in Wallisellen this past Sunday. A good night for outdoor hockey developed into a three goal period for the home team Condors. Five minutes into the game they had scored their first. Later in the period, after an interference call, Horgen went a man down. The Dolphin’s penalty-kill was successful in turning away the attack of the buzzing Condors. But no sooner than the fifth man jumped over the boards to make the lines complete, the puck was in back of Horgen’s net again. The Condors put another one on the board in the late minutes of the period. (HC Condors 3 – Horgen Dolphins 0)

In the second period the teams settled into a rhythm. Horgen went on a power-play seven minutes in and the puck cycled through the offensive zone in a fast pace. Deep in the corner the Horgen winger switched direction from low to high sending the puck to the blue line. The defensemen quickly passed from right to left and when it landed on Timo Sykora’s stick he ripped a shot. It went through the traffic in front of the net and past the Condor’s goalie. The Dolphins were on the board with Sykora’s first goal of the season.

The third period was a mix of up and down runs, battles on the boards and scrums in front of each goal. During one offensive scrum, Dolphin’s captain Marco Burkhardt, positioned at the edge of the crease reacted to a lose puck. Right before his stick was flipped out of his hands, he wristed the puck in the goal cutting the Condor’s lead in half. The Condors came back but Max Schneble turned away the shots coming from all directions. With raised intensity the Dolphins returned the pressure. But the last five minutes of the third period went too quickly. With three minutes left, Stefan Ruckstuhl took a close range shot that bounced of the goalies pad to the right side of the net. The deflection flipped just inside the reach of Kevin Ostroske and he slid it in the net bringing the Dolphins within one. Horgen pulled their goalie to gain the advantage of the extra skater. In the six against five, the Dolphins had multiple opportunities, but time expired without the equalizer being scored.

Horgen plays next in a two game stretch this weekend. On Saturday, November 9th they travel to Schaffhausen and play an early game against Gipfelsstürmer. On Sunday, November 10th the Dolphins return home to host the Toten Hosen. Tickets are still available for the 18:30 face-off in Zug.

Im windigen Ausseneisfeld von Walliessellen erwischten die Dolphins einen äusserst schlechten Start und lagen nach dem ersten Drittel 3:0 zurück.
Dank einer starken Torhüterleistung von Schneble konnte man den Rückstand in Grenzen halten, kam aber zu wenigen Chancen in der Offensive.
Erst bei doppelter Überzahl konnte Sykora nach einer schönen Powerplaykombinaten das erste Tor souverän erzielen. Die mangelhafte defensive Einstellung wurde aber mit einem ein Unterzahltor bestraft. Dank einer kämpferischen Einstellung und einem guten Endspurt konnte Burkhardt und Ostroske zwar noch auf 4:3 verkürzen, aber den Rückstand aus dem ersten Drittel gegen einen soliden Gegner nicht aufholen.
